We offer accommodation in a modernised Bulgarian family house in the village of MADARA which is 17 kilometers outside the district town of SHUMEN. We have a twin bedroom with ensuite bathroom. Larger groups can be accommodated - we can help in finding other accommodation in this peaceful and historic village.

Madara is the site of the MADARA HORSEMAN - a rock carving made in the cliffs above the village. When the Bulgarian rulers had their court at the nearby city of Pliska, Madara was a religious centre. Visit the large Nature Reserve and the Great Cave. Also available nearby is horse-riding and paragliding. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of a real Bulgarian village where people eat what they grow and produce themselves. Try the simple food in one of the village bars and restaurants. Or eat with us - outside in the garden when the weather allows. Thanks to the temperate climate this is possible for most of the year. See how Bulgarians still live a traditional life - hard but close to nature.
We are close to the town of Shumen which has a nice tree-lined pedestrian boulevard with lots of cafes and restaurants. If you are feeling fit try the walk up the 1300 steps at the Founders Monument leading from the centre of town to the Shumen Plateau. Try some shopping in the town where prices are very reasonable. No special mark-up for tourists here !

If you would like to rent a car during your stay let us know. Or rely on taxis which are plentiful and cheap. Madara is also served by trains and by buses. Or you can borrow one of our bikes.
